UPDATES! New book signing party, reduced domestic shipping!

Hey, all!

Sorry to keep you waiting, but we’ve had a bunch of new developments as of late, and we’ve just recently found the time to update you guys as to what’s been going on in the world of 5150. Well, the biggest news as of late is the latest book signing party we had for DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM! We held it at the Conspiracy nightclub in Hollywood on April 25, and had a stellar lineup of five female DJs: Lexie Looker, Holly Adams, Eve Falcon, and the great headlining duo No Pants Party! Take a look at some highlights from this great signing event!

The other major development we want to mention is that we’ve been able to negotiate a reduction in shipping costs for DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM! Now we can ship the book domestically for just $5.00, less than we’ve ever been able to ship the book out to customers before! That’s because we want you to be able to enjoy the glory days of the American rave scene as affordably as possible! This is why we recently brought the price of the book down as well–to make it easier for you to plug into this incredible era of American pop culture!

So don’t wait–tell your friends about this great opportunity to pick up America’s best coffee table photo book about the amazing period when rave music swept across America.

Deadmau5 and DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM – together at last!

GREAT news for you today! Our great big rave book is now in the hands of one of the biggest electronic music stars on the planet: the one and only DEADMAU5!

Deadmau5 and DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM

We managed to make this happen at Deadmau5′ pop-up store on Fairfax yesterday afternoon. Joel was a little tickled to see that he’d made it into the book, “right there at the end!” Needless to say, we hope that he enjoys the book and says nice things about it in public (*HINT, HINT, MAU5!*).

BTW, the man looked good the night before at his first of four nights at the Shrine at USC. Michael shot him for Getty and got some really good material out of it, like this shot here:

“DJs – THEN & NOW”, Week 8: MARK FARINA!!!

What’s up, people! Yes, it’s time once again for “DJs – Then & Now”, and this time around it’s our pleasure to acknowledge another old-school house master who definitely has made his mark on the electronic music world. In fact, it’s pretty to hard to find many American DJs who’ve made such an impression that fans marked their calendars after his performances so that they could look back and smile on a night that rocked their world. Yes, it’s the one and only MARK FARINA!!

Mark Farina FINAL

Wow, eighteen years and a beard are sure ways to mark a change, aren’t they? One thing that hasn’t changed–the amazing house beats that Mark has blessed the rave scene with for the past two decades! This man is definitely worth checking out, as you’ll see in this clip from one of his performances at Sound in Hollywood!

So what excuse do you now have for missing this guy’s show? Answer: NONE! And furthermore, the EDM generation definitely could use a good lesson about quality house music from time to time, so it’s fantastic that people like Mark have been providing that music all these years. So the next time Mark comes to your town, do yourself a favor…don’t miss him!!

NEW PHOTO EXHIBITION in DTLA! July 9 at Pop Obscure Records!

Good news! “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM” author Michael Tullberg is going to be taking part in a group photography exhibition at the brand-new Pop Obscure Records in downtown L.A.! It’s co-run by Michael’s old friend and colleague Sherry Lee from Freestyle Photographic Supplies, and it’s part record store (vinyl only!) and part art gallery.

The show’s theme is Music, so appropriately enough Michael went and pulled some of his good vintage rave material. Here’s one of them:

Frankie Bones, 111999

The other participants in the show are first-rate artists, so you know there’s gonna be a great selection of works to admire! The show opens on Saturday, July 9th. It’s gonna be a great night , and we hope that you can make it down!

More EDM Press Takes Notice! XLR8R Puts Out New Interview Article!

Oh yeah, this is good news. One of the great old-school rave media outlets, XLR8R.com, has just put out a new interview article with Michael. It contains not only the usual number of great classic rave photographs, but also a bunch of insightful comments from Michael about his photographs, rave history, and Rave vs. EDM. Here’s the link to the story:

https://www.xlr8r.com/news/2016/05/interview-dancefloor-thunderstorms-michael-tullberg/

Here’s a clip from the opening paragraph: “Southern California was on the ground floor when rave culture and dance music exploded in the 90’s and, thankfully, the archival tales and photographic relics of that time are now seeing the light of day. In a new book titled Dancefloor Thunderstorm—released in October of last year—electronic music photojournalist Michael Tullberg gives the reader a voyeuristic look at some of the biggest and most outrageous parties and underground raves from the 1990s and early 2000s. Reporting from the center of American rave culture during that time, Tullberg amassed an enormous library of photos, news articles, interviews, and memorabilia—the best of which make up the contents of his book.”

Sounds pretty accurate to us. Oh and by the way, it’s not only ONE WEEK until Michael speaks on the discussion panel at West Coast Weekender in San Diego!

West Coast Weekender flier

Michael will be taking part in the “Music For Positive Social Change” panel discussion on Friday, May 13 at 4:00 PM! We very highly recommend that you attend this new electronic music conference, since there are not only several very thought provoking panels taking place, but also numerous great parties in the evenings, as can be seen in the flyer!

And of course, only two days later it’s the big book signing at Dr. Freecloud’s Record Shoppe! It starts at 1:00 and “officially” ends at 3:00…but of course, if we find any reason to keep it going longer, we see no reason not to take advantage of that! Be sure to make your way down for a day of fun stories and more than a little of old-school rave history! SEE YOU THERE!

OFFICIAL BOOK SIGNING PARTY on Friday, Dec. 4th at COUTURE HOLLYWOOD!

We’ve got a BIG signing party coming up this FRIDAY, DEC. 4th at COUTURE HOLLYWOOD! Here’s author Michael Tullberg’s latest blog post that has all the details!

*Whew!* Thanksgiving week is over with, and I have a lot to be thankful for, that’s for sure. I have a lot of people who believe in what I do, and more people every day finding out about “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM“. This past week in particular was very productive and hectic, because the book got a big spike in attention and sales, thanks to back-to-back web articles from two huge Internet outlets! The first was from the mother of all dance music, the legendary Mixmag in the UK. Mixmag has been around longer than any other dance music magazine in the world; they are the premiere global authority on electronic music. They were they first in, they’re the last one standing from the old guard, and they’ve always reigned at the top of their field, both print and web-based. So when you get their official stamp of approval for your work, that means you’ve accomplished a lot. The dance music community in Europe and the UK jumped all over this, re-running the gallery story loads of times. Lots of domestic outlets reported on it, too. A print article is in the works as well–will update you on that when the time comes. Here’s the link to the original story:

http://www.mixmag.net/read/the-time-before-edm-blog

Now, normally getting a big shout-out from an organization like Mixmag would be enough complimentary showcasing to last a whole week–except nobody told the people at Buzzfeed that! The very next day after the Mixmag piece came out, Buzzfeed released their own image gallery of my work, stirring up even more Internet reaction. Their approval charts were extremely favorable, which means the word got spread around to a lot of other Internet outlets who normally wouldn’t have found out about the book. Plus, there have been more requests from other web pages to provide them with pictures in the wake of this article–quite nice! And, it looks like we may have secured our seventh retail outlet, and we’re fishing for more…a very big fish, in one case. Again, details to follow…here’s the Buzzfeed article for now:

And to top it all off, I was also shooting most of the week either for Getty, or for the VRtuality show that went off at Avalon yesterday. So I’m also thankful for this day of rest so I can recharge and get ready for another busy week, which culminates on Friday with my Official Book Signing Party for “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM“! That’s gonna be a killer show, with Steve Loria, Eve Falcon, Reza Gerami, Riley Warren and Danny B spinning! Plus, there’s NO COVER! That’s right, free admission all night long! plus there’s gonna me free drinks for the first hour thanks to some great sponsorship from Serpent’s Bite Whisky, too. And I’ll be there selling and signing books! It’s gonna be a great night, so I hope you folks invite who you like and bring yourselves down to Couture Hollywood, which is at 1640 Cahuenga Blvd. in L.A.
SEE YOU THERE!!!
