UPDATES! New book signing party, reduced domestic shipping!

Hey, all!

Sorry to keep you waiting, but we’ve had a bunch of new developments as of late, and we’ve just recently found the time to update you guys as to what’s been going on in the world of 5150. Well, the biggest news as of late is the latest book signing party we had for DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM! We held it at the Conspiracy nightclub in Hollywood on April 25, and had a stellar lineup of five female DJs: Lexie Looker, Holly Adams, Eve Falcon, and the great headlining duo No Pants Party! Take a look at some highlights from this great signing event!

The other major development we want to mention is that we’ve been able to negotiate a reduction in shipping costs for DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM! Now we can ship the book domestically for just $5.00, less than we’ve ever been able to ship the book out to customers before! That’s because we want you to be able to enjoy the glory days of the American rave scene as affordably as possible! This is why we recently brought the price of the book down as well–to make it easier for you to plug into this incredible era of American pop culture!

So don’t wait–tell your friends about this great opportunity to pick up America’s best coffee table photo book about the amazing period when rave music swept across America.

DFTS Price Reduction!

BIG NEWS! After more than two years since the release of DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM, we’ve decided to lower the price of the book by 25%. This means that the base price for the book is now $44.99, while the autographed copies go for $49.99.

We feel that after two years, it was time to make DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM more affordable to the fans of electronic music. As this is not an unusual practice in the book publishing world, we feel positive about being able to expand the book’s audience in this manner. We would like to point out that our publisher’s second book, THE RAVER STORIES PROJECT, has similarly had its retail price reduced on its Amazon sales page by Amazon.

We look forward to continue supplying the electronic music public with our books.

GREAT NEWS!

I’m pleased to announce that I’m doing two book signings for “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM” this coming May! Both events will be taking place in Los Angeles, at two very cool and interesting venues. The events are going to be part book signing and part party–we’re going to do a Q&A/exhibition, signing and then wrap things up with great dance tunes. Here are the details:

NEW INTERVIEW! Michael appears on EDMIdentity.com!

Screenshot EDM Identity

Great news–Michael has yet another interview up on the Net now! It’s on the web site EDMIdentity.com, where Michael and interviewer Grant Gilmore talk about the history of electronic music photography, how it and the scene have changed over the years, and of course about DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM! The conversation took place back in June in Las Vegas, right after Michael had delivered his presentation about photography at EDMbiz. Here’s the link:

http://edmidentity.com/2016/08/29/featured-interview-michael-tullberg/

Here’s a really nice opening quote from Grant: “While you may not always know the name behind the lens, you’ll definitely recognize the photos. Over the past twenty years, Michael has made a name for himself in the rave scene. Whether he’s capturing intimate moments with artists in undisclosed locations, dark venues with limited production, or festivals that leave you stunned, his shots are up there with the best of the best.” Wow. Thanks, Grant. That means a lot.

AND…some more good news. We’re going to be featuring a new weekly running bit here on this web site. Can’t tell you all the details yet, but it involves DJs and their longevity. Stay tuned for updates as they come! Now, get on back to what you were doing…after ordering a copy of DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM for yourself, of course!

More EDM Press Takes Notice! XLR8R Puts Out New Interview Article!

Oh yeah, this is good news. One of the great old-school rave media outlets, XLR8R.com, has just put out a new interview article with Michael. It contains not only the usual number of great classic rave photographs, but also a bunch of insightful comments from Michael about his photographs, rave history, and Rave vs. EDM. Here’s the link to the story:

https://www.xlr8r.com/news/2016/05/interview-dancefloor-thunderstorms-michael-tullberg/

Here’s a clip from the opening paragraph: “Southern California was on the ground floor when rave culture and dance music exploded in the 90’s and, thankfully, the archival tales and photographic relics of that time are now seeing the light of day. In a new book titled Dancefloor Thunderstorm—released in October of last year—electronic music photojournalist Michael Tullberg gives the reader a voyeuristic look at some of the biggest and most outrageous parties and underground raves from the 1990s and early 2000s. Reporting from the center of American rave culture during that time, Tullberg amassed an enormous library of photos, news articles, interviews, and memorabilia—the best of which make up the contents of his book.”

Sounds pretty accurate to us. Oh and by the way, it’s not only ONE WEEK until Michael speaks on the discussion panel at West Coast Weekender in San Diego!

West Coast Weekender flier

Michael will be taking part in the “Music For Positive Social Change” panel discussion on Friday, May 13 at 4:00 PM! We very highly recommend that you attend this new electronic music conference, since there are not only several very thought provoking panels taking place, but also numerous great parties in the evenings, as can be seen in the flyer!

And of course, only two days later it’s the big book signing at Dr. Freecloud’s Record Shoppe! It starts at 1:00 and “officially” ends at 3:00…but of course, if we find any reason to keep it going longer, we see no reason not to take advantage of that! Be sure to make your way down for a day of fun stories and more than a little of old-school rave history! SEE YOU THERE!

Amazon sales offline during Coachella

Hey everyone,

What’s up? Just letting everyone know that until April 26th, “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM” will not be available for sale through Amazon, because up until that point Michael will be working for Getty Images at Coachella and will not be available to process orders. However, the book will still be available for online ordering on this web site, so no worries for anyone who wants to have it delivered to their door. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, but Coachella is a full-time commitment and Michael simply isn’t going to have any time to squeeze in any order processing. We thank you for your understanding.

NEW IBOOK “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes” Released on iTunes!

NEW APPLE IBOOK: “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes” Released!

5150 Publishing enters digital realm with interactive follow-up to trailblazing American rave photo book!

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

LOS ANGELES, CA:  5150 Publishing today announced the release of a new digital iBook entitled “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes”. Available exclusively on Apple’s iBooks store in iBooks format, this digital volume is a companion to the groundbreaking coffee table photo book “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: Land Of The Free, Home Of The Rave”. Written and designed by electronic music photojournalist Michael Tullberg, “The Out-Takes” contains hundreds of top-quality classic American rave photographs that didn’t quite make the final cut for the “DFTS” print book.

“I’m really excited to be able to release this book in this electronic format,” said Tullberg. “The fact that anyone with an iPad or a MacBook can now instantly access this amazing period in American pop culture history so affordably is a great thing. This may sound funny, but the final stages of editing the DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM book were actually pretty painful…there was so much great material that for one reason or another just didn’t quite make it under the wire. Now the fans of the music can enjoy some of those pieces in a totally interactive way that’s a lot of fun.”

DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes” is indeed a highly interactive electronic book, with features that Apple users will be very familiar with. Readers will be able to scroll through image galleries, shrink and stretch pictures, connect with Internet-based videos and music, and search for numerous hidden “Easter Eggs” within the iBook itself. As in the “Land Of The Free, Home Of The Rave” print book, “The Out-Takes” features the elite of the electronic music world, including Frankie Bones, Paul Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Jason Bentley, Basement Jaxx, DJ Dan, the Black Eyed Peas and more. Also included is a long-lost interview with internationally lauded artist BT, conducted in the early stages of his career upon the release of his “ESCM” album. In addition, there are also links to online videos and streaming music that reflect the classic rave vibe of the 1990s and 2000s. In other words, “The Out-Takes” contains a great collection of material that will keep the electronic music fan occupied for a long, long time.

DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes” is available in the iBook store for only $6.99, and can be found at the following preview link:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/dancefloor-thunderstorm-out/id1090607538?mt=11

The “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: Land Of The Free, Home Of The Rave” print book is available for online ordering at www.dancefloorthunderstorm.com, and at select Southern California retailers including Amoeba Music, Book Soup, Skylight Books, Dr. Freecloud’s Record Shoppe and more.
