NEW APPLE IBOOK: “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes” Released!

5150 Publishing enters digital realm with interactive follow-up to trailblazing American rave photo book!

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

LOS ANGELES, CA:  5150 Publishing today announced the release of a new digital iBook entitled “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes”. Available exclusively on Apple’s iBooks store in iBooks format, this digital volume is a companion to the groundbreaking coffee table photo book “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: Land Of The Free, Home Of The Rave”. Written and designed by electronic music photojournalist Michael Tullberg, “The Out-Takes” contains hundreds of top-quality classic American rave photographs that didn’t quite make the final cut for the “DFTS” print book.

“I’m really excited to be able to release this book in this electronic format,” said Tullberg. “The fact that anyone with an iPad or a MacBook can now instantly access this amazing period in American pop culture history so affordably is a great thing. This may sound funny, but the final stages of editing the DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM book were actually pretty painful…there was so much great material that for one reason or another just didn’t quite make it under the wire. Now the fans of the music can enjoy some of those pieces in a totally interactive way that’s a lot of fun.”

DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes” is indeed a highly interactive electronic book, with features that Apple users will be very familiar with. Readers will be able to scroll through image galleries, shrink and stretch pictures, connect with Internet-based videos and music, and search for numerous hidden “Easter Eggs” within the iBook itself. As in the “Land Of The Free, Home Of The Rave” print book, “The Out-Takes” features the elite of the electronic music world, including Frankie Bones, Paul Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Jason Bentley, Basement Jaxx, DJ Dan, the Black Eyed Peas and more. Also included is a long-lost interview with internationally lauded artist BT, conducted in the early stages of his career upon the release of his “ESCM” album. In addition, there are also links to online videos and streaming music that reflect the classic rave vibe of the 1990s and 2000s. In other words, “The Out-Takes” contains a great collection of material that will keep the electronic music fan occupied for a long, long time.

DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM: The Out-Takes” is available in the iBook store for only $6.99, and can be found at the following preview link:

DFTS Face Contest

As you might have guessed, we cobbled together this interesting collection of facial parts from several famous DJs, and you have to figure out who those DJs are! Some are old-school rave veterans, and some are newer EDM artists. Can you tell what parts belong to what spinners? Put your best answers to the following facial features:

Eyes:
Nose:
Ears (top):
Ear (side):

Pompadour:
Face & mouth:
Facial hair:

OK, we’ll give you ONE hint: the purple ear on the side belongs to Dillon Francis. As far as the rest is concerned…you’re on your own!

Please send your entries through the Contact page on the “DANCEFLOOR THUNDERSTORM” web site: https://dancefloorthunderstorm.com/contact/

The first contestant who writes in all of the correct answers will win a copy of the book. Any entries with less than all answers correct will not qualify. Only one entry per person, and multiple entries from any one person will be discarded, so guess carefully! All in all, plenty of informative entertainment for the rave music fan at home! So go ahead and start listening!

Stay tuned for more news coming SOON!

DOUBLE GOOD NEWS! SteveAoki.com and VICE love “Dancefloor Thunderstorm”!

Hey everyone, we know it’s been a little while since the last post, but there was a very good reason for that…we were quite busy getting new stories out in exciting new outlets! There were two that really came through for us, the first one being the web site of the world famous EDM DJ/producer STEVE AOKI! Yes, the cake-throwing maniac (haha) has decided to put a great interview with Michael up online, accompanied by a fantastic gallery of classic images…including some not found in “DFTS”! Here’s the link to the story on his website, steveaoki.com:

Also included in this story is a link to Michael’s great story about he and DJ Sandra Collins getting “kidnapped” (no, not really) by Superstar DJ Keoki in 1999. Here’s the link to that video:

And on top of that, we also scored a great podcast interview with VICE.COM, on their Rave Curious show. Michael sat down with VICE’s Josh Glazer to talk about the book, the original rave scene, and the trials of putting together such a mammoth project. Full disclosure: Josh was also the editor for “DFTS”, and it was great to be able to chat about this without having to explain everything to an uncomprehending interviewer who had no experience in the field. More to come!!! STAY TUNED!!!
